Booking your wedding at All Saints Church, Eligibility and Costs

Weddings are perhaps one of the most important occasions in anybody's life, and we at All Saints are delighted that we host quite a number of these every year.

Weddings are not booked by email or telephone but in person. You do not both need to attend, (although we prefer it if you both can come along) but if at least one of you can come to the church on a Saturday morning between 10am and 11.30am that would be most appreciated.

Please note that sadly we are unable to discuss dates with you by phone or email because bookings are made on a first come first served basis on Saturday mornings and so offering a date to you by phone or email could lead to a double booking mix up as we have to have someone present face to face to make a booking. If you are unable to be present on a Saturday morning it is fine to send someone down to the church to enquire about availability on your behalf.

Please note, please bring photocopies and originals of your passport or driving license with you as proof of identity as this is a legal requirement. Also please check that you are eligible to marry at All Saints by reading the whole of the below.

Please also note that we are able to booking weddings for every day of the week except for Sundays. Sundays are not possible as our organist, choir and bellringers and verger spend the afternoon with their families having attended church in the mornings. They would not have much family time if they were busy with weddings on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays so Sunday is a day off for them.

When you arrive at the church on Saturday, the entrance is through the door round to the far right of the church.

WHO CAN MARRY AT ALL SAINTS WHITSTABLE?

It is important to check that you are legally able to marry at All Saints Whitstable as not everyone is permitted to marry here.

Please can you read this next bit carefully!

This is a check list that you can use to confirm if you are able to be married at All Saints. It would be worthwhile running through these questions before you come along to book your wedding.

Questions to ask yourself

1. Would you mind confirming if either of you has been married before?

If the answer is YES and the previous partner is still alive then no booking should take place and the couple should contact Simon our vicar. The booking cannot go ahead now even with a provisional date. Please call Simon on 01227 272308 to discuss this matter further. We do marry divorcees but not when the new relationship developed when the previous marriage was in existence.

If neither of you have been married before please go to question 2.

2. Would you confirm that you live in the parish of Whitstable on a regular basis and that you are both UK nationals?

If the answer is YES then the booking can proceed. If one of the parties is not a British national then the wedding can go ahead with a provisional date but some nationalities need a special license and they must talk to Fr Simon before taking this further. This is only for certain countries.

If the answer is NO to living in Whitstable and you do not live in Whitstable then proceed to question 3.

3. Has one of you ever lived in the parish of Whitstable for more than six months?

If the answer is YES then the booking can go ahead. The couple can use their addresses where they live now and should not use parental addresses.

If the answer is NO then please go to question 4.

4. Has one of your parents ever lived in the parish of Whitstable for more than six months during your lifetime?

If the answer is YES then the booking can go ahead. The couple can use their addresses where they live now and should not use parental addresses.

If the answer is NO then please go to question 5.

5. If questions 1, 2, 3 and 4 do not apply to you there are still ways in which you can be married in Whitstable.

These are
a) One of you was baptised or prepared for confirmation in the parish;
b) One of you has at any time regularly attended public worship in the parish for six months or more;(see footnote)
c) One of your parents has regularly attended public worship there for six months or more in their child’s lifetime;
d) One of your parents or grandparents were married in the parish. (All of these refer to Church of England services)

Footnote: If none of these apply the only way the couple can get married at the church is if they attend an Anglican church in Whtistable regularly for six months. Once they have done this they can come back and book the wedding. They do not need to go on the electoral roll for weddings after October 2008.

The basic legal fee is £287.50 for 2011 but this does not include all the extras such as verger, organist, flowers and bells, which are optional and push the price up considerably if chosen.

Please note that if you live outside Whitstable you are required to have your banns read at your local church and the fee payable to that church is an additional statutory fee of £34.

Non-Statutory Fees. These fees are not compulsory but most people choose to have flowers, verger and organist so these fees need to be added on to the above fees. Bells and choir are also very common additions.

Please pay fees by cheque made payable to All Saints’ DCC, and address the envelope to Mavis Baker, C/O All Saints’ Church office, to arrive at least Four weeks before the date of your wedding. Should this not be forthcoming within the time limit; payment by cash will be required within the following week.
